The Tamron 70-300 mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD Sony FE is a versatile telephoto lens with which I capture both portraits and objects at a great distance. The zoom range is very suitable if you like to capture athletes and wild animals from a great distance. I use the extreme focal lengths of the zoom range, first 70mm and then 300mm. The autofocus is quiet and it focuses quickly between near and far. The lens is relatively light and feels sturdy.
Versatile telephoto zoom range
It takes some getting used to the zoom range of this telephoto lens. I personally don't shoot with telephoto lenses. It is a pleasant surprise that I stand still and still get my subjects nice and close. I find that I like to use the extreme focal lengths. Without taking a single step, I first take a photo at 70mm and then directly at 300mm. Wow what a zoom range! What used to be relatively far away is now very close. The range is a lot of fun to experiment with and puts a smile on my face. I also like that the zoom range starts at 70mm, so I also shoot portraits.
Autofocus
Thanks to the fast and quiet autofocus, I can accurately capture moving objects, such as athletes and wild animals. For example, with this lens I photograph birds and rabbits in the distance, that's what this lens excels at. The lens keeps up with the camera's focus speed well, even when I quickly switch between 70mm and 300mm. Due to the relatively short focus distance of 80 centimeters, I also photograph subjects such as flowers and insects without having to take a few steps back.
Build quality
I am thrilled with the build quality of the lens. Is this a full frame telephoto lens? The weight is huge. The material is sturdy and feels good. In combination with the compact Sony A7C, the whole is a bit out of balance. With a larger body, for example, this is probably less. The relatively low weight ensures that the lens does not feel very large and makes carrying the lens a lot easier. While shooting, I zoom in and out without any problems. The lens has a wide zoom ring and goes smoothly from 70mm to 300mm and back again. Thanks to the rubber edge around the mount and seals against dust and splash water, I will definitely take the lens with me during a light rain shower.
