Description

    Great projector, but pricey

Arjan Neet | 8 October 2021 | Sharpness: Full HD (1080p) | Automatically translated from Dutch

    • nice picture
    • enough light output
    • good sound
    • Not a full android
    • remote control is no longer a pointer
    • short power cable

I started with an H1, which worked well in itself, but was no longer updated, and so some Android problems.. I therefore later replaced it with an H2, the additional advantage that it had a greater light output, the H1 was then went to the bedroom. However, the H2 is very bad in terms of software, in the aptoid store there are a total of 8 apps, and sideloading as with the H1 went with most apps (not everything) is actually not possible with the H2, everything freezes or simply does not work.
Now partly because of this I doubt whether I should purchase the Horizon, it is a lot of money for a Chinese thing.
I have to say that the light output and therefore the image is fantastic, even in the middle of the day with a light curtain you can still see well. I don't even need an ugly projector screen anymore. As soon as you move it, it will look for the right aspect ratio and position again, not so important to me since it is in a fixed position, but nice gadget.
I had to get used to the Android TV environment, Synology DSfile does not exist, DSvideo on the other hand does, so I had to set up everything a bit differently, but in the end everything works now, I actually only use the beamer to stream from my NAS, I don't want a separate beamer with another android box or something like that, nor do I want to be constantly with my phone in my hand to stream something, everything has to go on the beamer itself.
Initially downloading the desired apps took forever, for 1 app an hour, but later it seemed to go faster, no idea why. I had paused all updates, so that was not the issue.
I haven't figured out how to just view a website, a browser doesn't seem to be an option??
Also experienced once that the remote control stopped working, had to turn off the beamer, then it did it again.
Sound can be loud enough with these beamers, but keep in mind that the sound then comes from the beamer, which is why I just connected it to a soundbar with bluetooth.
What I find very unfortunate is that the remote control no longer has a pointer function, with the H1 you had to shake it, with the H2 there was a button on the AB in front, with the Horizon this function is gone. I am used to using the pointer to operate the keyboard on the screen instead of continuously pressing the arrow buttons to go to the correct letter.
It is also a pity that the power adapter is slightly larger than that of the H2, just a few mm apart, so it no longer fits in the foot of my stand (also from Xgimi), the cable could have been just a little longer 230v cable is also short but can be replaced.
I don't really have 4k content, so the standard Horizon was enough for me, other than that the Pro seems to have trouble playing non-4k content, and it's quite a bit more expensive.
I don't own Netflix, but you seem to be able to sideload it.

Great projector with some points for improvement

Arjan Neet | 9 October 2021 | Sharpness: Full HD (1080p) | Automatically translated from Dutch

    • Very nice picture
    • Good sound
    • Still looks nice
    • Not a full Android
    • Remote control no longer with pointer function
    • short cables
    • Quite pricey

I started with the H1, which was already a pretty good beamer, sometimes with some minor issues, apps couldn't all be loaded via the google store, but you could sideload a lot. However, controls are no longer updated and so when the H2 came out immediately bought the H1 then moved to the bedroom.
However, the H2 is certainly not an improvement in all respects, in terms of light output, but not everything else. Apps can only be installed via Aptoid, and that's only 8 (!) apps, which are of no use to you. Sideloading works with some apps, but most just crash. A lot of people solve this by connecting a separate Android box, but I don't want this, then I might as well have bought a 'dumb' projector, I think the advantage of these projectors is that it is an all in 1 device is.
Where you shake the H1 remote once to use the pointer function, you have to press a button on the H2, and the function switches off after a few seconds, even if you are still busy.

Partly because of this, I doubted for a long time whether I would switch to the Horizon, I thought the Pro version was way too expensive anyway, and I never play 4k anyway, so for me the choice fell on the 'normal' version.
In terms of light output, it is certainly a step better, but I had to get used to Android TV. I normally actually stream 99% of movies from my NAS, and normally use either BSplayer for this, or sometimes DSfile, but both are not available in AndroidTV, it's mainly for the standard movie and TV apps I think, although you can get Netflix I also have to come up with a detour, but I don't use this so it's not a problem for me.
I now use DSvideo and Nova video player, and that seems to work well enough so far. Have also set up Kodi, but personally I don't think that is very useful, quite cumbersome, does not always update the files, and does not even show all files.
Strangely enough, a web browser doesn't exist.
A major disadvantage of the new remote control is that the pointer function is no longer available at all, I am used to always use the pointer when typing something, now you have to use the arrow keys continuously to move back and forth over the keyboard instead of directly to designate.
I have also had 3 times that the remote control stops working after a few seconds, I have to switch the beamer off and on again on the device itself, and then it works again. Hope this won't be a problem...

All in all a good projector, but certainly not perfect. It works for my purposes, though, so I'm happy with it.
