Quick and easy migration from my DS214play to the DS423+. Simply place the 2 hard drives from my old NAS in the same order in the new NAS. The DS423+ makes a little more noise than my previous NAS, but also keeps the drives a little cooler. I mainly use my NAS as a file server, surveillance station and storage for photos and home videos. Playing the home videos in DS Video or Plex (various formats, including 4K60 HDR from my iphone13) requires little effort from the system. Surveillance station with 4 cameras and DSM 7.x quickly consumed 50% of the basic internal memory continuously, so I immediately expanded it from 2GB to 6GB (with Synology module). As a file server, the speed has improved over my previous NAS, but not significantly. As a media player, the difference is of course big.
