I was recently fortunate enough to be able to test the Sony FE 16-25mm F2.8G wide-angle zoom lens for a few weeks.
I am a home photographer and my family is my 'project'. I enjoy taking beautiful photos of my family. I choose not to pose them, but simply photograph them in everyday life.
I have other systems and lenses at my disposal, but was missing a wide angle lens for my mirrorless camera and am now fortunate enough to be able to test it.
What initially attracted me was the size of the lens: nice and compact with a great aperture. You can tell from the weight that it is a quality lens, the lens feels well balanced in combination with my camera.
I have never used my camera for filming before, I always use a different system for that.
This is a nice lens for filming, the lens has a fast autofocus (auto mode) and is silent; I don't hear him in the result. Thanks to its F2.8, you can also take very beautiful images indoors without having to worry about lighting or exposure. The images are clear and sharp, playing with the aperture and settings produces very beautiful images. Thanks to its 16mm wide angle, you can film up close with a great viewing angle (you can actually see some of the surroundings), which I really like.
As for taking photos, the lens also does that perfectly. You notice that you have a very good lens in your hands. The autofocus is also very fast and correct here. I really like photographing at 16mm, the photos look natural and not distorted (I have this with other systems with a wide angle). I had a group of people that I photographed close to the ground and up close. This resulted in a very beautiful, colorful, clear and impressive photo. The lens offers options to visualize your objects in a different way.
What I also like about the lens is that you can quickly set your aperture using the rotating ring. This allows you to quickly change your setting and create the right composition. Fortunately, you also have the option to set it to auto if you are lazy or prefer easy.
Is the lens completely perfect for me? No Unfortunately not. I noticed that the zoom range of 16-25mm was sometimes too short. However, this can of course be remedied by standing a little closer or digitally zooming in the photo afterwards.
Do I recommend this lens? Yes, it is a nice lens to hold, both for photography and filming. The quality is very solid with beautiful end results and its size also makes it easy to carry.
