tado Smart Radiator Knob X - 4-Pack (expansion)

Since October, you have to pay €4 per month to heat individual rooms with tado radiator valves. Without a subscription, they can no longer tell the tado main thermostat to turn on the boiler. I returned the products and am now opting for Plugwise. That solution is completely local, so there will never be a subscription fee.

We replaced our remeha thermostat with tado + smart radiator valves 6 weeks ago. We saved 30% energy in the first month. If this continues, we will quickly recoup the investment. We are very happy, and also because it is now only warm when it needs to be warm in the (bath)rooms.

Easy to install, each radiator can be individually adjusted, a beautiful design that's not really noticeable, and app operation is convenient. However, the Tado only starts heating at the time you set a specific temperature, so it doesn't reach that temperature until later. With my old Honeywell, the time you set was also the time the temperature was reached, so the Honeywell started heating much earlier, taking into account variables like the outside temperature and room characteristics. And that with the technical capabilities of 15 years ago! I consider that a major drawback of Tado, especially since you need a longer warm-up time in cold weather. Tado proudly announced that it now uses AI, but that doesn't help much. Holiday mode: I have a home-based practice; if the practice is closed for a week, I can set holiday mode. However, holiday mode applies to all thermostat valves; it's not possible to set a holiday schedule for the practice area or for the private area. That was already very easy with the Honeywell 15 years ago. Also, with the Honeywell, I didn't need to equip all radiators with a thermostat; I could still heat them with a regular thermostat. With the Tado system, that's no longer possible. If you open the radiator valve and there's no demand from the Tado system at that moment, nothing happens. All in all, I find the product disappointing; I expected more. I can manage, but it's not exactly excellent. In the year I've had this system, I've noticed that Tado is constantly developing, so those features may yet come.
