The idea of the G1 is good, but in practice it is very disappointing. Your floor must be perfectly flat and smooth, emptying and cleaning the device is (too) much hassle, and the build quality is not what I expect from this expensive device.
This device only works well on perfectly flat floors. On a tiled floor with grout it often leaves puddles of water. If the tiles are not perfectly flat, you will also quickly notice that the device cannot reach the deeper parts of the floor properly due to its large footprint, which means that they are not cleaned.
The separate dirt collection tray seems great, but after a while of use it turns out to be a lot of hassle, the time saved is completely undone. Emptying and filling the water trays is relatively quick, but has to be done too frequently. The separate dirt collection tray also has to be emptied very frequently, otherwise you will keep getting the (incorrect) message that your water collection tray is full... while there is hardly any water in it. A very frustrating experience. Vacuuming thoroughly in advance is therefore a necessity and negates any potential time savings.
The device has a 'self cleaning' function, but that only lets some clean water run over the brushes. That works somewhat, but also causes a lot of wear to the (expensive) brushes, which means you have to replace them more often. If you remove the brushes, you will quickly see that the 'self cleaning' is just a stopgap measure. The dirt is everywhere, and it is very difficult to get in between everything to clean the device properly.
In addition, the build quality is also disappointing. You can tell from everything that 'value engineering' has been the deciding factor here. The 'base station' is a cheap sheet of plastic that slides away easily. The cable cannot be hidden and hangs there a bit. The cover of the device feels very cheap, I was afraid that the cover would break if I bumped into something. I have no confidence that this device will still work in a few years. This feeling does not fit with a device in this price range.
All in all, I can not recommend this product. It hardly saves time, is too expensive, needs expensive replacement parts (brushes) on a regular basis, and the device does not work well on floors that are not perfectly flat.
