It fries perfectly. The pan is deep, so oil doesn't easily sizzle over the edge if there's too much moisture in the fries or potatoes. The lid, with its viewing window, is meant to be kept on the pan while frying to prevent excessive splattering. However, there's no way to remove the lid without burning your hands. You have to stick your hand in a plastic slot to lift the lid, and then it ends up above the grill where hot steam escapes. Who came up with this? The basket's folding arm is also inconvenient. While you can store it without the handle sticking out, if you turn the basket upside down to transfer the fried fries to a bowl, it folds in half; you can't click the handle into place.
