TP-Link Tapo D210 Smart Video Doorbell

Wow. Seriously. TP Link, what are you doing? OMG. This doorbell, this speed. Simply insane. My expensive dual-cam doorbell from a well-known brand with Homebase is much slower, but it was €250... To start with the drawbacks: it can't be connected to the existing doorbell wires and doesn't have a do-not-disturb mode. Sometimes I want to temporarily disable motion or silence the wireless chime when the little one is asleep. Unfortunately, that's not so easy. That's a drawback.

Image quality is excellent with its 2K resolution. The 160-degree view is good, nice and wide, but I miss the bottom of the door where packages are sometimes left. Choices...

Nice and very convenient; when the doorbell rings, you can choose to receive a push notification or be "called" by the doorbell. Ring the doorbell, great. You answer the phone and the live stream opens immediately. Very fast. A cloud subscription is optional, but it does give you push notifications with a preview of what it saw and, if applicable, cloud storage. This can be useful if you don't want to risk losing your footage if your doorbell is stolen, despite the anti-theft option.

I purchased the Tapo D210 smart doorbell camera two months ago. So far, I've had excellent experiences with it.

The device comes with good installation materials and clear installation instructions. The doorbell camera feels solid and has a wide viewing window and an IP65 rating, making it rainproof. It was also a good size for easy placement on my doorframe. The set also comes with a wireless chime, which is small and easy to conceal near a power outlet. The doorbell itself does need to be charged and can't be configured with a wired connection. A stable 2/4 GHz Wi-Fi connection is also important.

The Tapo app allows you to configure many options, such as doorbell sensitivity, notifications, and the camera can even trigger a ringtone through the app. All features are available without a subscription.

The camera's image quality is excellent, and even in the dark, the spotlight function allows you to see color images. The microphone is also included.

I found the Tapo app very user-friendly and offers many options for adjusting event sensitivity, and even recording and saving images directly to my phone. To record regular images, a separate microSD card is required. There's also an Anti-Theft setting that locks the doorbell if it's accidentally stolen. This is quite secure, as the SD card is located inside the device itself.

My only complaint is the advertised battery life; it doesn't last six months, but I'm very satisfied with the battery life considering I have many options enabled.

A smart doorbell might seem unnecessary, but once you have one, you'll never want to be without it. The Tapo D210 works seamlessly within the Tapo ecosystem, but you can also connect it to Alexa or Google Home. I simply use the Tapo app. Setting it up is incredibly easy: just charge it, click it into the mount, and follow the steps in the app. Pairing the chime is automatic. After that, you can customize exactly what you want, like when the chime rings and which images are recorded. I had it working in no time and only had to tweak it a bit afterward to save battery life. I don't think I'll make it through six months of battery life. The images are stored on an SD card in the doorbell, and you can simply download them via the app. If you have a Tapo hub, you can also save everything there. The image quality is excellent, and the doorbell is very easy to use. My favorite thing is that you don't need a subscription to use everything. It's possible, but you're not obligated to anything.
