Google Home Speaker Gray

With the Google Home Speaker, I bring home a smart speaker that responds quickly, is easy to operate, and works well with other smart devices. However, I do notice that some handy features only really work well with a paid subscription.

Installation I plug in the speaker and, thanks to its small size, place it almost anywhere. Using the Google Home app, I scan the QR code on the bottom. After that, the app guides me step-by-step through the installation. I pair the speaker with Gemini and connect it to Spotify so I can start listening to music immediately. You can also link apps for podcasts and audiobooks, for example. I adjust the volume using the touch controls or my voice. For extra privacy, I turn off the microphone using the switch on the bottom.

Voice Control

As soon as I say "Hey Google," the speaker listens. I can immediately see from the white light ring that my question is coming through. While it 'thinks' about my answer, the light turns blue, so I can see that the speaker has heard my question. However, I do find it a pity that the speaker sometimes responds too quickly and interrupts my question. Conversely, I also cannot stop it if it gives an answer I am not looking for. Then I have to wait until it is finished. That works better with a subscription, but you do pay a fixed monthly or annual fee for that.

Smart assistant I mainly use Gemini for small tasks around the house. For example, I set a timer, add something to my calendar, or ask for ideas for dinner. It knows the answer to every question, such as the meaning or translation of a word. The conversation remains smooth even with follow-up questions, because Gemini remembers all the questions. This way, I don't have to keep asking my question over and over again. Additionally, the speaker works well with my other smart devices. For instance, I ask it to turn on the light next to the couch when it gets dark, so I don't have to get up myself. So, if you are looking for a smart speaker for convenience at home, quick help with daily tasks, and immediate answers to all kinds of questions, I think this is a good choice.
