Tip 1: allow it to heat up

It's important that you give the clothes steamer enough time to heat up. If you don't, the water won't turn into steam. This causes the clothes steamer to leak. To prevent a leaking clothes steamer, make sure you always keep it upright. Both when it's heating up and when you're steaming. Does the steamer start bubbling when it's heating up? Don't worry, that's completely normal

Tip 2: set the clothes steamer properly

Do you have a clothes steamer with multiple settings? Choose the right setting for the fabric you're about to steam. You need more steam power for a sweater than for a silk blouse, for example. Some clothes steamers include attachments, such as for rigid fabrics. With a powerful steam intensity and special brush attachment, you can reach the fibers of your fabric more easily. This allows you to steam and disinfect the fabric better.

Tip 3: steam downwards

Practice makes perfect. For a good result, make sure to stretch your piece of clothing and steam downwards. By stretching your clothes, you prevent creases and can smooth out the fabric faster. This also allows you to apply more pressure while you steam, as you steam downwards.

Tip 4: maintain your clothes steamer

To enjoy your clothes steamer for as long as possible, it's important that you maintain it well. You use tap water to steam, which means that limescale builds up. Descale the clothes steamer every 3 months. You can do this by mixing 1 part white vinegar with 2 parts water and letting the steamer steam until it's empty. And always make sure the water tank is empty when you're not using it.
