The most important drone functions
Image quality
The resolution of a drone determines how sharp the video footage looks. Most drones record in 4K resolution. This footage is razor-sharp, so you can see a lot of details. For professional use and social media, you can record in 4K resolution. Choose a drone that records in 5K if you want to crop your footage without quality loss. This gives you more freedom in post-editing.
Obstacle detection
Thanks to the obstacle detection sensors, the drone avoids obstacles so you fly into objects less quickly. That's useful if you fly between trees, for example. Some drones have sensors at the front, back, and bottom, but not at the sides. For extra security, choose a drone that has sensors all around. We call this 360-degree obstacle detection. A drone that only has bottom sensors doesn't help you with flying and only lands safely.
Flight time
The flight time of a drone indicates how long you can fly with a single battery before the battery runs out. This way, you know exactly how long you can fly. Keep in mind that the weather conditions and your use affect the flight time. For example, you fly shorter in case of hard wind and cold. The battery also lasts less long if you often rotate the camera or give the drone many flying tasks.

Frequently asked questions
Which drones are for beginners?
A drone for beginners is compact in size, so you can easily take it with you. You can easily operate a beginner's drone with a remote or via your smartphone. The image quality of these drones is 4K resolution. That means you can record sharp footage. Starter model drones are the DJI Mini 3 or DJI Mini 4K, for example. You don't need a drone course for these drones.
Can I fly a drone everywhere?
As a drone enthusiast, you want to send your drone to the sky as soon as possible. We completely understand, but there are some areas in the Netherlands where you can't fly. These so-called no-fly zones are indicated on the GoDrone maps with different colors. In this article, we'll explain what the colored fly zones mean for you as a drone pilot.
Do I need a flight certificate?
For drones that weigh less than 250g, you don't need a drone license. If your drone weighs more than 250g, you do need a drone license. You need to follow a mandatory drone course for this. There are 2 different drone courses: basic (A2) and basic light (A1/A3). On the product page of a drone, you can always read which course you need.
Do I have to register my drone?
You're required to register every drone. You need to request an operator registration number at the RDW for a fee. You'll receive a sticker with the operator registration number from them and stick it on your drone. You always need to broadcast the operator registration number during a flight as well. You can fill in the number via the app and the drone automatically broadcasts it.
How high can you fly with a drone?
According to the European regulations, you always need to be able to see your drone. This means you can't fly too high or too far away. For the safety of the airspace, a maximum 120m height always applies. It doesn't matter which drone you have. Do you see other air traffic, like a helicopter or plane? Land your drone right away.
