A little over a month ago, I decided to buy the LG OLED55B7 after visiting various sites and reading reviews from other owners.
The Coolblue site caught my eye because I find it well-arranged and detailed. They have a wide range of brands and types and they are interesting in prices too.
I was looking for a TV that was not too big (I only have limited space on my TV cabinet) and good in terms of price / quality. I decided to go for a 55 inch (the smallest possible OLED available).
My old TV was a 40 inch LED TV and since day 1 had the problem of 'clouding', white cloud-like zones on the screen during dark scenes. Since I'm a SciFi enthusiast, that was something I definitely didn't want in my new TV.
With the 30-day money-back guarantee, I took the plunge and ordered the LG OLED55B7. The TV was delivered the next day. The delivery person was from Coolblue itself and helped me up the stairs two floors up with the TV. And all with a smile. He also gave me some very useful tips! Great service!
Unpacking the TV was a bit of an undertaking. Fortunately, the neighbor helped because you really have to be with 2 people for this. There are precise instructions on the outside of the box to help you get the TV ready for use correctly and safely. Caution is advised when lifting and moving the TV, because it has to be lifted and gripped in a special way. The entire display was covered with a transparent cover that had protected the display from scratches etc during transport and was easy to remove. Great job from LG!
A first test presented itself....
And guess what: .... yes, black is BLACK on this device. No about-black or gray.
No more white clouds either, in short pure enjoyment... and what a contrast!!
The remote control seemed a bit complicated at first, but that turned out to be just appearances... I got used to it in no time. Handy is the red pointer on the screen with which you can easily select and click things. A bit like the mouse feeling on the PC. The apps like Netflix and Youtube that are included by default are also easy to find and open.
The TV has different display modes. Cinema, game, dark room, light room etc. In the beginning it was a bit dizzy... all those settings. But a little research on Youtube quickly made that clear.
I searched Youtube for videos that discuss possible calibration settings for this specific device. I initially took over these settings 100% (so I immediately got used to the various options, the user interface and at least I had a blueprint of settings to continue with).
Secondly, I changed some settings here and there to my own taste. Depending on what I use the TV for and depending on the light conditions in the room in which the TV is located, I activate a certain mode and enjoy an optimal image every time.
Have you fiddled with the settings so much that you've lost the thread? No problem: the TV has a factory reset option that nicely restores everything to the situation when it came out of the box.
In a number of online reviews I read before buying the device, the sound from the TV came up as a potential downside, however, I personally think the sound is fine. If you take into account the limited thickness of the device and therefore the limited dimensions of the built-in speakers, the sound really sounds more than ok.
I don't use the internal speakers myself. I connected the TV via an optical cable to my HiFi amplifier.
It is also interesting that you can combine the speakers of the TV with the sound of the external amplifier. So they are not automatically muted like some other TVs. In short, the device offers a maximum of options.
If you don't have an external amplifier and you want to optimize your sound 'automatically' to your room, you can adjust the sound of the TV via the 'hearing option' on the remote control. The television then shows you a few steps to follow and plays a piece of audio that the remote control then receives and analyzes. At the end you get to choose which sound you like the best.
On my old TV there was no WiFi available unless you bought an expansion card. Fortunately not with this device. Wonderfully built-in!
Overall, I think it's a great device. Not expensive at all for the quality and functionality you get. I have not regretted this purchase for a minute. Recommended!
