Product description

The LG OLED65C8PLA will give you the feeling of being there at the recording of a movie or series. The OLED screen of this TV means that black images are truly black. Color or black tones are extra realistic thanks to the large contrast. The image display is detailed and smooth in combination with the integrated a9 processor, so you won't miss any of the action when a racing car speeds past. Various handy smart functions are easily accessible via the Internet, such as websites, games, or apps like YouTube or Netflix. Browse through all your entertainment with the included Magic Remote by using sweeping movements or simple voice commands. This works a lot faster than pressing keys.

  • Pros:
    Picture quality is outstanding
  • Pros:
    The remote controls Bluetooth devices
  • Con:
    Slutter when playing 24p movies
  • Con:
    The remote lacks play/pause button

The picture is nothing short of breathtaking. I still just stare at it with my mouth open. This is why it's super frustrating that when playing movies or series in 24p, there is stutter caused by the OLED technology's instantaneous response time. It can't be fixed without turning on the tv's motion processing (TruMotion) which introduces the dreadful soap opera effect :(

  • Pros:

  • Pros:

  • Pros:
    LG WebOS
  • Con:
    Glossy finish means reflections
  • Con:
Sound ok but not class leading
  • Con:
Not the best for motion processing

The TV is impressive. The viewing experience is great and the navigation easy and clear, especially using the magic remote. You might need to spend sometime fine-tuning some details for the best picture. I would suggest using Expert Bright Room and Expert Dark Room. If you need to stick to one profile only, maybe use the Technicolor Expert one.

Of course it goes without saying that to maximise the panel performance you need to calibrate this TV. This leads me to my next point, which is that in very difficult dark situations, you might notice some black level crushing, mostly on HDR, especially Dolby Vision content, which looks to be mostly in need of calibration. I believe this can be easily addressed by a professional calibration and of course varies between TV sets. This is probably due to the TV not properly following the EOTF curve.

But this is a bit nit-picky. You will not regret the C8. LG uses the same panels and chipsets on models C, E and W so you're not missing on anything by getting the C. The only thing that changes is the design, which in the C8's case is not something to point out but it is unobtrusive and inoffensive.

You can ask more from the sound performance, like Sony's acoustic surface technology but you can't fault it. It's important that it comes towards the listener. The speakers may be down-firing but the base is sculpted to direct the sound towards you.

Overall, I think you will struggle to find a better TV. You might prefer other sets due to different strengths and weaknesses, but make no mistake. The C8 is definitely up there with the best of them.

Fantastic colors and image, decent sound quality. Overall it's really good for gaming and watching movies in 4k@60hz, but beware that you will need a special high speed HDMI cable for it.

I also got mine with a sequence of dead pixels on matrix near the top border (which could be on any TV to be honest), but was able to exchange it to a new one without any problems. So make sure you've carefully checked everything.
