Description

The DJI Tello is a starter model drone for both adults and children. It's easy to learn how to control and coordinate this drone. When you throw the drone into the air, it automatically starts flying. Control the drone with your smartphone or tablet. Tap the screen and make the drone perform stunts, such as a somersault. Use the Scratch program to pre-set movements that the drone performs later on. This is an accessible way for children to learn how to program. If you connect the Tello to a VR headset, it looks like you're flying. Thanks to the sensors and protective components, the drone can withstand falls and bumps. It uses the sensors make a safe landing when the battery runs out.

    Laws and regulations

From 2021 onwards, there is a new European drone legislation. From that moment, you have to register any drone that weighs more than 250 grams. In addition, every drone pilot has to take an online course. If your drone weighs more than 900 grams, you have to follow a physical training at a training center. Don't want to register and take a course? We recommend a drone that weighs less than 250 grams, like the DJI Mavic Mini.

    • Con:
      Battery life

      Can't handle low-light conditions

Pretty basic drone that's easy to control. It only gives you about 12 minutes of flight time, there's no on-board storage and it can't handle flying at night or with more than a mild breeze. But for the price that's really not a deal-breaker. It's a fun toy and isn't trying to be much more. If that's what you're after, this is a fine piece of kit.

    • Pros:
      Charges quickly
    • Con:
      Can't handle wind
    • Con:

    • Con:
Updating is difficult with the official app

Fun to fly, super stable indoors, quite stable with light winds. Image quality is OK, not so good in poor light.

Got it and updating was very difficult, since sometimes it requires to put the (android) phone on airplane mode and then turn on wifi and connect. So you need to connect, then get the update, and go back to airplane mode + wifi.
