According to our hard drive enclosure expert
Suitable for almost all SATA SSDs
Fast connection thanks to UASP support
Not suitable for SSDs that have a higher height than 2280.
In this StarTech M.2 SATA SSD to USB 3.0 external drive case you place an M.2 SSD for the fastest read and write performance of your external drive. Clone the files on your SSD easily to a new SSD, HDD or another storage module. The housing is suitable for M.2 SSDs with different widths, namely 30 mm, 42 mm, 60 mm and 80 mm. By supporting the UASP protocol, the SSD works faster than over a normal USB 3.0 connection. Moreover, the processor of your laptop or desktop is much less stressed by UASP. The housing is light and has been specially designed to dissipate heat passively but efficiently. You do not need an external power supply, because your data and power goes through one cable.
Note: this external housing is only suitable for M2.0 SSD with B + M key
Easy to use and feels sturdy

On the operation of the device I have not noticed any problems. However, during the installation of an M.2 ssd I noticed that the supplied cover plate was unfortunately not for a USB 3, it was the size of a USB 2 but it worked for what I needed so I will keep it (just not installed the cover plate then). There is a supplied screwdriver but you still have to manually tighten a small nut (in my case at the 2280 standard distance of 80mm) that was a challenge for me to get it on its screw thread but all in all simple enough to to assemble. Considered a SCSI device with me I couldn't run checking software from my hard drive because of that, but of course the standard windows disk check.
