According to our television expert
With the Sony KD-55XG8505, you enjoy clear and colorful images. This 4K television has HDR10 and Dolby Vision support. This provides a strong contrast that brings every subtle color tone to life. When you watch an action scene or sports match, you won't miss a single detail. That is because the 100-Hertz refresh rate displays every fast action smoothly. You get access to websites, streaming services, and other apps via the internet. Activate Google Assistant and operate the most important functions with simple voice commands. This way, you can quickly start your favorite series or request useful information like your calendar or the weather forecast.

Unpacked the TV smoothly with 2 people, put legs under the TV with a click system. When installing, follow the steps and this is very doable. I opted for a fixed internet cable, because WiFi in the house is not strong. Connecting to the internet was also easy, typing in the password took a little longer because this had to be done with an arrow system. Pairing remote control from provider (KPN) also went well.
The TV gives a nice picture. Colors are bright, details well visible (what a difference with the previous TV, I see more wrinkles now!!). Dark colors are really dark. When you watch 4K movies, you imagine yourself in a cinema. The figures seem to rise out of the picture and come forward. Magnificent! The sound of the TV is good, the speech is clear and easy to understand. My husband thinks it should have more bass.
About the design: Tightly designed TV, the edges on the top and side are less attractive to me. These would have liked me even tighter. Now it looks like a list has been made.
The apps like Netflix and YouTube are doing well, you can switch to them very easily and quickly. Streaming from my iPhone to the TV works, a handy gadget with the TV without difficult instructions.

This is our 3rd Sony LCD/Led TV. Never had a defect. When comparing with other brands, Sony always has the most realistic colors in the same price range. 85 inch gives the real cinema feeling.

Positive: This television has beautiful colors, and can also handle smooth movements well. Those were the main reasons for me to purchase. So the television handles smooth movements very well and I hardly see any distortions on the image (think of a handful per film at most, and often nothing at all or it just doesn't stand out) If you do suffer from these distortions, you can always lower the movement gears or switch them off completely.
This television has a number of standard picture settings that you can choose from, the picture setting “Standard” comes very close to the (for me) “Perfect picture”. You can adjust all color values and image improvements as desired to arrive at the desired settings, the menus for this are logically arranged and all settings are well explained.
The viewing angle of this TV is also good, which is to be expected from an IPS panel. The image is clearly visible from all sides and the colors hardly fade when you look at it from an angle, so when you watch the TV with several people in a household from different places, no problems arise.
We have now played a number of 4K HDR films and watched 4K series, and I have to say that I am generally impressed! Also "regular" 1080i TV via Ziggo looks fine on this TV. Reasonable: The sound is decent, as expected in a flat TV, but don't expect miracles. The smart part of this TV is also reasonable. Android is not the best smart TV system, but if you want to use the existing YouTube and Netflix apps, I don't expect you to run into problems. Slightly less positive: When you watch television in a dark room (in the evening). you see that the TV does lose some light through the black. This was somewhat to be expected from an edge LED TV, but it is noticeable if you look for it and hence worth mentioning. If you watch full screen content with not too dark scenes, then there is nothing wrong, but if it all gets a bit darker, or if you watch a film with black bars, then you can still see quite a bit of escaped light. You do have to pay attention to it to bother you, but I can't say it can be completely ignored. This is therefore a point to think carefully about when purchasing this TV. Conclusion: All in all a great product, with beautiful colors and fast image reproduction and reasonable to good sound, but unfortunately some “light bleeding” at the edge of the screen.
