"High quality, cheap TV with annoying ads in the interface"

Herbert | 15 April 2020 | In the size: 40 inches (102cm)

  • Pros:
    moderately priced
  • Pros:
    proper sound
  • Pros:
    proper video
  • Con:
adds and commercials in the TV interface
  • Con:
several reboots per day to restore wifi
  • Con:
    clumsy remote
  • Con:
    Slow interface

Although I was happy with this television at first, it's starting to show several caveats after this first half year.

Most importantly, the sound and picture quality are perfect; probably not the best out there, but for the price level very competative.

ADS What bothers me most, is that the television interface shows ads for the Disney channel and Amazon Prime; you can't avoid this unless you keep the TV off, even if you're using an HDMI cable to connect to your PC or other device. They don't appear often yet, but this is a slippery slope. They really are ads, not just 'suggestions'.

REMOTE The remote has several buttons that start up manuals or exit the current application. The TV will interrupt whatever you were watching and start loading for about 7 seconds, after which you'll have to restart whatever you were doing. There buttons are places directly next to the normal navigation buttons for UP, LEFT, OK, etc. This is the case for many Samsung TV's though.

WIFI The wifi simply doesn't connect when you turn on the TV after a while. I have a 50m2 appartment with a 3 node mesh grid wifi, which gives perfect coverage. Yet, this TV often needs a reboot cycle to connect. This cycle takes about 20 seconds via the remote by holding down power for a bit, or the same amount plus walking to your power outlet.

SLOW The interface is somewhat slow, I thought it got slower during the period I owned the device, but after remeasuring the start-up times of Netflix, the NOS app and the NPO app, this doesn't seem to be the case. So no effects of planned obscolence. The slowness is bearable and acceptable for this price level.
