According to our e-reader expert
Protect your e-reader from damages such as scratches and cracks with the cover.
The size of the e-reader makes it easy to read comfortably and take it on the go.
You can connect headphones via Bluetooth and listen to audiobooks.
A charging cable is included, but not a charger for in the socket.
You can't save many audio files in the 16GB storage, so choose 64GB if you listen to audiobooks a lot.

After ordering the faltering Kobo saga 2x (slow screen and black selection buttons when creating folders, and changing Bluetooth), I still opted for the Era, how nice you can put everything on this device, it doesn't complain about a subscription or logging in or accounts ! So you can also throw your own audio books on it without any problems, so it will definitely go on holiday. You can program all screen taps yourself, set the button functions and you can also fix the screen in all positions. The fonts are somewhat more limited, but you can install them yourself. The light of the Era is fine, but I've been used to kobo for years, so I still have to get used to it. All in all a nice reader with many functions without being tied to platforms. It is a pity that coolblue does not sell the charge cover, here you click the strip on the back and click the cover on the front and back, (other than the Flip over where you only protect the front), where the back is provided of a wireless charging function as phones also have. Unfortunately I had to buy it from the competition.

In itself I like this ereader. However, there is a super annoying issue: 30% of the screen is taken up by the bookstore. This one is from Pocketbook. However, no Dutch-language books are offered. There are three stores: English, German and Russian (I think ;) ) You can also set languages, which I think will then only show the books in question. This includes a number of languages (including the common Afrikaans language), but not Dutch. In short: no Dutch bookstore and no Dutch-language books. The bookstore that is visible cannot be changed, adjusted or clicked away, so that approximately 30% of the page is annoyingly unusable. A real design flaw. However, not enough for me to return the reader, which I do like.

The pre-installed software is decent (better than what Kobo has), but not enough for me, so I installed KOReader. Even though KOReader is not maintained for PocketBooks, it runs well. When the device goes in and out of sleep mode, KOReader sometimes wants to have the orientation wrong, but I have defined a gesture to reverse the orientation 180 degrees, so that problem is solved with one gesture. I had heard negative reports about the screen, but my copy provides a more than razor-sharp image with good contrast (KOReader allows things like contrast and font thickness to be adjusted very accurately). The screen lighting is good, although some weaker strengths than the current 1% could have been added, but the color warmth offers me too little red in the warmest setting. The design is very nice, but (as PocketBook itself says on a note supplied) a case is absolutely necessary in everyday life. There are cases that allow wireless charging, but I don't have one, so I don't know how well that would work. not me. The screen size is just enough for me to read PDFs in A4, after removing the margin (something that KOReader is good at). The battery is strong - several days of continuous reading without refilling is no problem. However, a few hours of browsing can completely drain a full battery. The device has 58,000 MB of memory, of which about 53,000 MB is available after deducting the pre-installed software.
