According to our television expert
The Sony Bravia OLED XR-55A80L (2023) shows high-contrast, realistic, and vibrant images. On the OLED display, you see a strong contrast thanks to the individually dimmable pixels in the screen that can even turn off. As a result, the dark parts of the screen are truly dark and the bright objects stand out more. This makes it easy to see all details in the background of a dark scene. The A80L shows smooth images, thanks to the 100Hz refresh rate. The ball in a soccer game always stays clearly visible and you can see all the debris flying around during an explosion in an action movie. Thanks to the Acoustic Surface Audio + audio system, the sound comes from the screen. This way, the sound follows the movements on the screen. This makes movies and series even more immersive. You can find all your favorite apps like Netflix and YouTube on the Google TV smart platform. Here, you can effortlessly watch the content you want to watch.
The Sony XR-55A80L is very suitable for the PlayStation 5 thanks to the extra useful functions that make the experience smoother. You can connect your console via an HDMI 2.1 cable and enjoy a 100Hz refresh rate in a 4K resolution. This way, games look smooth and razor-sharp on the screen. The TV supports the Variable Refresh Rate. This function ensures the refresh rate of your TV is always the same as that of your console. This way, you never experience screen tear while gaming and you'll be a step ahead of your opponent.

Bought this Sony A80L (55 inch version) as an upgrade for an 8 year old LCD TV and the step to OLED was huge. You get perfect black colours on screen (because black pixels are off with OLED) which in theory gives you almost infinite contrast. In practice this means that images in HDR (high dynamic range) look very nice and vivid. A disadvantage of OLED is that the peak brightness is not as high as mini LED but that seems to be fine here. In the first days after purchase we watched several 4k BlueRay films at home and we had nothing to complain about.
In addition to the good image quality, this TV runs on the Google TV operating system. I think that is a plus because the TV is much more usable because you have a lot of choice of apps and it also works almost universally with smartphones to send media to the TV. Something that is not so easy with WebOS from LG, for example. Furthermore, the operation is fast and smooth. I can't really complain about that.
Finally, let's look at the design of the TV itself. The Sony A80L looks nice. It has small edges all around and only the bottom edge is slightly thicker. You can place the TV on its legs or hang it on a wall bracket. We opted for the legs. These can be adjusted to different positions. Namely narrow and wide and also high or low. For our soundbar, the wide position and high worked best. This allows you to place a soundbar up to 113 cm between the legs. Wider is possible, but then you have to place the soundbar in its entirety in front of the legs. Something that is not possible on our TV cabinet because the legs need quite a bit of depth on your TV cabinet, namely 32.5 cm (our TV cabinet is 39.5 cm deep). Definitely something to keep an eye on during placement. In our case, this applies to the 55 inch version of the TV. When you hang the TV, you do not have this problem, but that is not possible for everyone.
All in all, a seriously impressive OLED TV that will provide a lot of viewing pleasure. I can definitely recommend it!
Below are some pictures of the TV as it stands on our TV cabinet (180 cm wide, 39.5 high and 39.5 deep), of the operating system start screen and some "screenshots" during an HDR demo movie.

The TV comes in a large box and is neatly packaged. Install with 2 people because the screen is quite large and vulnerable.
Connecting and installing the TV is self-explanatory and is very easy and fast. Scrolling through the menus and the like is nice and smooth. It is immediately noticeable that the sound comes out of the screen in a different way, which really gives a different experience than a soundbar under the TV. This really makes it more spacious. Of course, a soundbar or other set remains necessary if you want an immersive experience when watching movies or series.
The picture is really fantastic. I was already used to an OLED screen, but you can clearly see that this screen is another step forward. The colors really pop off the screen and are very bright and sharp. Wonderful to look at and easy on the eyes. The screen refreshes at '120 frames per second', which ensures a very smooth display and that all contributes to a pleasant viewing experience. Football, movies or games; this TV can do it all!
This TV is also specially designed for gamers. As soon as you connect your console (in my case the switch) the TV immediately goes into game mode. The Playstation 5 is specially mentioned as a good collaboration with this TV, which I can imagine but unfortunately I was not able to try. That must be a special experience, partly because the games on the Playstation 5 can usually display 4K images, making it an immersive experience.
You can easily install and use apps such as Netflix on the TV itself. This also works smoothly and quickly. The image quality of Netflix on this TV is a really big step forward compared to my previous TV, which makes this TV really worth considering, especially if you don't have an OLED TV yet!

Purchased the XR-55A80L Bravia TV last week. When unpacking you immediately see what a beautiful device this is. It is stylish due to its large screen with thin black edges and is extremely thin. It fits perfectly in our living room and fits well with the rest of the decor. The 2nd remote control is also very stylish, slim and the shortcuts to the various channels are ideal. Voice searches are also very useful. The picture is really nice (animated movies are nicer than in the cinema), the sound is also really good. The only point of criticism is the ticking that can be heard when turning the TV on and off.
