I think the DJI Flip is a fun entry-level drone with a number of professional functions, such as ActiveTrack. This makes it suitable for both beginners and advanced drone pilots. However, I have to be careful that it does not get carried away by the wind due to its low weight of 249 grams.
Handy, safe design
The DJI Flip's propellers have handy propeller protectors. I like this, because it makes flying the drone safer and it is less likely to get damaged if I fly into something. This also allows me to fly the drone indoors, which I find a great advantage. For example, I can record a tour of my new house from an original angle. When I take the drone on the road, I can easily fold the propellers. This way it fits better in my bag. I do notice that the Flip is larger when folded than a folded DJI Mini drone, which makes it less suitable for a backpacking trip, for example. I think a nice extra function of the Flip is that it automatically turns on when I open the propellers. When I fold them back, the drone automatically turns off.
Clear and sharp video images
I find the video images I make with the Flip very clear and sharp. The drone has a large 1/1.3 inch image sensor that captures a lot of light. Even on a cloudy day, my videos look clear and have little noise. I think the recordings look professional and use them for a YouTube video, for example.
Functions
I find it easy that the Flip takes off from my hand and lands there again. With the button on the drone I set the flight mode, for example Circle. If I then let it take off from my hand, I do not need a remote control. It flies around automatically and then comes back. I also notice that the drone gets dirty less quickly if I let it land on my hand. When I put myself in the picture, I use the ActiveTrack function. The drone follows my movements and always keeps me sharp in the picture. I think this works well and in this way I make nice images for social media. Outdoors, the obstacle detection ensures that the drone brakes for obstacles, such as trees. I notice that the obstacle detection does not work when flying the drone indoors, probably because there is not enough free space there.
