Nice to have and easy to use

I bought this device because the dust layer in my new apartment was becoming too frustrating. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this purchase. My floors are dust-free, and I've noticed a huge difference in the amount of dust swirling around my house. The robot picks up so much dust, so much that I was a bit shocked. I initially planned to have it clean twice a week, but now it's mopping daily until the water becomes less black. Eufy has made the dirty water tank completely airtight, which can cause the water to swell and smell quite badly if you don't empty it regularly. Setting up the eufy was incredibly simple: place the station somewhere, fill the tank with water, and press the power button. It then goes off and creates a map of your house. After that, it takes a bit of work to separate the rooms it recognizes, but that was minimal. If you closed your doors or it didn't pick up certain areas properly during setup, that's no problem: its camera allows it to look around carefully on every trip. It immediately enters new areas it discovers to clean them, adding them to the map without you having to specify anything. Overall, it's an incredibly smart device: it recognizes cables lying on the ground and stays away from them, jumps over thresholds with a cute little run-up, and if you place it somewhere else, it takes a quick look around before immediately recognizing its location and then returning to its base station. The "edge cleaning" function is a bit disappointing; it doesn't clean edges very cleanly, and especially when driving around objects (chair legs, planters, etc.), it keeps a greater distance than I'd like. I understand it staying away from cables, but I'd like it to be a bit closer around chair legs. At the same time, the robot does occasionally bump into things. When it moves forward, it does so very gently with a separate system, but in the edge cleaning program, it rotates its back close to the walls, which is sometimes a bit faster than I'd like. If edges are important to you, I'd consider a more expensive model with an extending mop.

The app is sometimes an unnecessary hassle. Creating a cleaning schedule for the entire house automatically has separate settings for each room. If you don't like the default settings (for example, edge cleaning is off by default, causing it to move even further away from edges), you have to adjust them for each room. You can also only schedule cleaning for fixed times. If you want to clean at a different time on the weekend than during the week, you can go through the settings again. After a bit of setup, everything is quite repeatable, and there's a certain pleasure in saying "clean the kitchen" to your phone and watching the robot move and clean precisely the area you've marked as the kitchen.

There are also a few minor drawbacks that always apply to robot vacuums, but are important to consider:

• They don't come standard with cleaning agents. Eufy offers its own cleaning agent, but it's expensive, and online reviews suggest its effectiveness is disappointing. You can't add all-purpose cleaner to the device because it damages the robot.
• The robot itself isn't exactly maintenance-free: the dust bin needs to be emptied weekly, and you need to check the brush for hair buildup.
• Maintenance is expensive: accessories are expensive, and vacuum bags aren't exactly cheap either. According to online reviews, cheaper vacuum bags aren't worth the money, and you should definitely get the more expensive ones from the manufacturer.

Perhaps suitable for a small home of the average Dutch person, but not for larger homes. As soon as it involves multiple levels, the device skips a step and wants to wash its mop at the start; once you bring it back to the base, it has forgotten about it again, etc. I am technically inclined, so I understand how the device works. By the time you put it into it, you have already cleaned the level manually. The device also leaves streaks on your parquet, and you cannot choose the direction; so if your parquet is laid in the other direction, you are out of luck and it will be covered in streaks.
