Canon EOS R6 V

The Canon EOS R6 V is a powerful camera for the professional content creator and videographer. The camera captures smooth 7K RAW footage, and thanks to Open Gate, I have a lot of creative freedom. Thanks to 7.5 stops of IBIS (In-Body Image Stabilization), I effortlessly shoot smooth handheld videos. I can easily determine my framing for videos via the bright LCD screen, but I miss the viewfinder when shooting. Lightweight body with fast response time I tested the Canon EOS R6 V during a city walk with the Canon RF 20-50mm f/4L IS USM PZ lens, which Canon released simultaneously with the R6 V. I take my camera everywhere with me. For my professional and business videos, I was looking for one that makes every shot look sharp right away. What immediately strikes me about the R6 V: the camera body feels light even with the lens attached, and the camera responds very quickly. This allows me to hold it comfortably and easily film fast-moving and unpredictable subjects. For example, I film a butterfly flying past and a fast cyclist.

Sharp 7K RAW video footage The R6 V was built with video in mind. The camera features Open Gate, which means the camera uses the full sensor height for my shots. This allows me to crop my footage later without loss of quality to the image format I need. For example, I film horizontal cityscapes and crop them to a vertical aspect ratio for TikTok or Instagram Reels. As a content creator, that is truly ideal: you film once, and you keep all options open. I record 7K footage at 60 frames per second. If I choose 4K, I film at 120 frames per second, allowing me to effortlessly slow down the footage afterwards into cinematic slow-motion shots. During my walk, I also take many photos with the R6 V. With 32.5 megapixels, I capture even the smallest details sharply, such as the texture of a facade and the tiny hairs of a cat. I can easily adopt low shooting angles thanks to the rotatable LCD screen, but I do sometimes miss the electronic viewfinder when shooting. Through a viewfinder, I can immediately see the effect of my camera settings, which I feel makes shooting feel more natural. For example, I can instantly see if my subject is well-exposed or in sharp focus. This is clearly visible on the screen, except of course in bright sunlight.

Smooth handheld shots thanks to 5-axis IBIS with 7.5 stops The R6 V features 5-axis built-in image stabilization with 7.5 stops. This allows me to capture smooth images handheld. The image stabilization of the Canon RF 20-50mm f/4L IS USM PZ lens works well in conjunction with the image stabilization in the camera body. Together, they eliminate unwanted vibrations and shocks, allowing me to easily shoot and photograph from low or uncomfortable angles without a tripod, where my hands shake more. I feel that my images look professional because of this. That is why I also consider the R6 V a strong choice for travel videography, for example, where you are on the move a lot and don't always have a tripod with you.

Handy video buttons What I really like about the R6 V are the video buttons on the body. Think of buttons for zebra, peaking, and white balance. As a videographer, I use many different settings. With physical buttons, I can quickly adjust the settings without scrolling through menus and interrupting my recording. This allows me to focus entirely on the creative process. A great example of this is the record button on the front of the camera. When I film myself, I immediately see which button I need to press to start recording. That might sound like a small thing, but it really makes a difference. With other cameras, I often press the wrong button.
