Expert review MacBook Air 15 inches (2023)

On June 5 2023, Apple launched the MacBook Air 15 inches at the WWDC event. This is the first time that Apple has launched a 15-inch MacBook Air, and they're doing it right. It's the thinnest 15-inch laptop ever. I was allowed to test it for a week and, I'm impressed by what this slim model can do. In this article, you can read all my findings about the MacBook Air 15 inches (2023).

Tested model

  • With the M2 chip, you can work with demanding programs like Final Cut Pro.
  • With 10 graphic cores, apps and graphic tasks don't slow down.
  • With 1.51kg, the larger 15-inch screen still isn't heavy.
  • We recommend 1TB of storage if you store a lot of photos, videos, and programs.
  • If you work in multiple programs at the same time, we recommend at least 16GB of RAM.

First impression of MacBook Air 15 inches (2023)

I carefully remove the lid from the box and see my dark blue, new MacBook. Under my MacBook, there's the USB-C power adapter and the USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable. I notice that the cable is no longer made of plastic. It's now a braided cable. This makes it more resistant to cable breakage. In addition, the cable has the same color as my new MacBook: Midnight. The familiar Apple stickers also have a dark blue color.

Larger size, but still light

Never before has Apple released a larger MacBook Air. After all, MacBook Air is known for its compact size and low weight. But this 15-inch MacBook Air only weighs 1.51kg and easily fits in my bag. This means that I can take it with me everywhere and work in any environment. Thanks to the thin bezels, you really only see the screen. And the 1080p FaceTime camera even has a notch, so Apple didn't waste any space here either.

Suitable for daily tasks

This 15-inch MacBook Air has the M2 chip, which makes everything run smoothly and fast. This is thanks to the 8 central cores and 10 graphic cores. I can easily perform all my daily tasks without my MacBook slowing down. This includes creating reports in Pages, sending emails, and editing light videos in iMovie.

Image and sound

Editing photos and videos is ideal on the large Liquid Retina display, because you can see every detail. Watching films or series is no problem either with this MacBook. Thanks to the 6 speakers with Dolby Atmos, I can hear the sound all around me. This makes the experience even more lifelike.

Few connectors

The casing of this MacBook Air is almost as thin as my iPhone 12. So it's no surprise that it only has 2 USB-C ports. As a result, you'll need a docking station soon. This MacBook does have a mini jack connector, which you can use to connect wired audio equipment. On the left side, you'll find the MagSafe connector. This magnetic charger easily detaches if someone trips over the cable, preventing the device from falling. While charging, the light on the adapter turns orange. When the light is green, MacBook Air lasts up to 18 hours.

Works together seamlessly

Just like my other Apple products, the MacBook Air 15 inches works seamlessly with my iPhone, Apple Watch, and other Apple devices. As a result, I can easily and quickly share files with my iPhone via iCloud. I can also use my iPad as an extra screen, or my Apple Watch as a clicker during a presentation. The possibilities are endless. Do you have an old model like me, and want to transfer all your files to a new MacBook? Use the migration assistant.

Conclusion

The 2023 15-inch MacBook Air is suitable for all your daily tasks and for editing videos. You can see every detail on the larger 15-inch screen, without it being heavier. Are you often on the go, but do you still like to work on a big screen? This MacBook is the right choice for you.
