After months of research on the internet, I finally arrived at this model. I had in-ear Sennheiser headphones. The disadvantage of this is that every touch of the cable can be heard immediately. Very irritating.
I ended up dubbing between three different headphones. Most comparable price and quality. Sennheiser, Marshall or Denon headphones. All three with Bluetooth connection.
I was surprised by the enormous frequency range of these Denon headphones. In the end, this was the deciding factor for me to order this model.
The order from Coolblue, as always, arrived quickly and was well packaged. The Denon box was packed in the Coolblue packaging. It was immediately apparent from the quality of the Denon packaging that we are dealing with a quality product.
A sturdy and stylish packaging.
Once the Denon packaging had been opened, a sturdy black storage pouch was required. This included the headphones including a charging cable, a cable for wired listening, a 3.5 mm to 6.35 mm jack plug and an adapter for the airplane. All connectors have a gold-plated connection for better sound experience.
The headphones themselves feel very sturdy. A sturdy pair of headphones that uses metal fasteners. No plastic hassle to keep costs low. The further finish is good, sturdy and nicely put together. The USB charging point is even covered with a rubber cover to protect it from any moisture.
The Bluetooth connection was very fast and simple.
In my case this went via the iPhone settings to the Bluetooth setting, press the button on the headphones and pair.
Then immediately put the headphones on my head. You hardly notice you have it on. It sits so comfortably on your head. The ear cups fit perfectly over the ears. Not too big. The pillow is comfortably soft and closes everything well. The buttons are cleverly placed, you can easily reach them when you have the headphones on your head. You can also quickly figure out which button is where, without looking.
After picking a random song, I started listening. At first I was shocked by the sound. My first thought was 'is this it?' From the specified specifications, I initially expected something different.
It is a very neutral sound, with a dry bass sound and a sharp high frequency. The middle area could be a little more present in my opinion.
To give an example, I am a fan of hard rock music, in which guitars are clearly present. Drums, vocals and bass were clearly audible, but I missed the guitar power a bit.
What struck me immediately was that what I heard was extremely detailed. The different instruments were very recognizable and that without everything becoming a mess. Very handsome I must say.
The Denon app contains an equalizer. With this I hoped to boost the guitar part a bit more. Unfortunately! The app is 3 years old and never updated. Second, it is not possible to play DRM protected music such as Apple Music. That makes this app worthless to me. Then get started with the settings on the iPhone itself. Switching the equalizer from off to neutral here resulted in a slightly better sound for me.
For me, the use of the headphones is mainly intended for the train and the metro. This is where the noise canceling system comes in handy. Switching the noise canceling button on the headphones immediately ensures that unwanted sounds are filtered out.
This suddenly provides an extra sound experience. No unwanted noises from the subway or train. It really works and how.
Something extra happened when I turned on that noise canceling button. The sound itself also changed. The bass changed slightly making it a little less prominent, but still very detailed.
Probably a better sound for some and a less good sound for others. For me personally it is progress.
I've had these headphones for a week now and don't regret buying them. It's a keeper. I still hope that one day there will be an app that contains an equalizer and can play DRM music, but that will remain hope.
My only curiosity is what the sound of any Sennheiser or Marshall would have been like.
Despite the slightly less present guitar part, it is still here to stay.
