Step 1: measure carefully

The width and height of the niche dimensions for a microwave are often smaller than the width and height of the microwave itself. That's why it's important to measure the niche dimensions well. The front is wider than the back. This way, it'll fit properly in the niche and the front will neatly fit the kitchen cupboard.

Measure niche height

Step 2: measure the niche height

You can measure the niche height by measuring the niche from the bottom to the top with a measuring tape. Isn't your niche empty? Measure the cupboard next to it or the appliance itself. The smallest standard niche dimension for a microwave is 38cm. Most microwaves of this size don't have an oven function. The largest standard size for a microwave is 45cm. Most combi microwaves are this size.

Niche width

Step 3: measure the niche width

Measure from the left to the right of the niche. You now know how wide your microwave can be. The standard niche width is between 55 and 60cm. Is the current appliance still in the niche? Measure the cupboard or the microwave itself.

Niche depth microwaves

Step 4: measure the niche depth

Place the measuring tap on the far back of your niche and pull it towards the opening of the niche. This is the depth of your niche. Is your microwave still in the niche? Try to measure the cupboard itself. The standard niche depth is about 55cm.
