How do I set up a stereo pair with 2 Sonos speakers?
What do you need?
- 2 same Sonos speakers. You have installed these speakers in the same room. It is possible to make a stereo pair with the following models: Sonos Play:1 Sonos Play:3 Sonos Play:5 Sonos One
- The SONOS Controller app installed on your smartphone or tablet.
- A nice cup of coffee
Step 1: place the speakers in the desired position
For the best stereo sound, place the speakers left and right in front of the listening position. You ensure that the distance from each speaker to the listening position is the same. Place the speakers at ear height. Use a box or stand to create the correct position.
Tip: Do you have a Play: 3 or a Play: 5? You can position them both horizontally and vertically, as long as both speakers are in the same position. Place the speakers horizontally to have good sound on your entire sofa. Do you often listen alone? Then position the speakers vertically for better stereo playback.
Step 2: open the Sonos Controller app
Make sure your smartphone or tablet is connected to your Wi-Fi network and open the Sonos Controller app. The app will immediately search for your existing system and log on to it.
Step 3: open the menu
If you are working on a smartphone, tap the 3 lines at the top left. You do not have to do anything on a tablet, because the menu on the left is folded out.
Step 4: tap Settings
The last option in the menu is Settings. Tap it.
Step 5: tap Settings room
Tap Room settings.
Step 6: tap 1 of the speakers
Tap 1 of the speakers you want to pair with a stereo pair.
Step 7: Tap Create a Stereo Pair
Tap Create a Stereo Pair.
Step 8: tap Next
The screen shows that you are about to make a stereo pair. At the bottom right, tap Next to continue.
Step 9: select the second speaker
You will now see a list of all available speakers with which you can make a stereo pair. Tap the speaker you want to pair. When a check mark appears after this speaker, tap Next.
Step 10: indicate which speaker is on the left
You will now be asked to indicate which speaker is on the left. Press the button on the left speaker to turn the volume up (the + button).
Step 11: round the link
The system now makes a stereo pair. This may take a while. Once this is successful, you will see the message Stereo Pair made in the screen. At the bottom right, tap Next.
Your speakers are now paired as a stereo pair. Play a song and tap the name of the speaker at the top of the screen. In the list that appears you will see behind the pair L + R. By tapping this group, you play the music to this pair. To cancel the group, go back to the Settings room menu, click the group and choose to cancel Stereo Pair.
