According to our laptop expert
On the 15.6-inch Lenovo Legion Y530-15ICH 81FV00GFMH you can play a game of Fortnite or Battlefield V on average settings. This Lenovo has an Intel Core i7 processor, so you can also use this laptop for video editing in Adobe Premiere Pro or streaming to Twitch. Thanks to the 256GB PCIe SSD, the level is loaded faster than that of your online opponents with a 'normal' SSD, so you can start the warming up sooner. This Lenovo Legion continues to cool optimally during intense matches, thanks to the two fans at the bottom of the laptop. There's a bit of space between the fans and the ground, so that the warm air flows away properly.

For my technical education I was looking for a laptop with the specs of a gaming box, but with a business look and a relatively affordable price. The Lenovo Legion makes this happen. Below is my experience after about a month of use.
It is made of beautiful matte black plastic with white lighting, thin screen bezels, a nice keyboard and touchpad, an incredibly fast Core i7 with a corresponding fast GPU and lots of RAM. There is also an HDMI 2.0 port, display port, USB C and a decent Ethernet port. Serious work can be done with this laptop in addition to gaming.
There are also concessions for this budget. The screen is not very bright and colourful, the plastic housing moves with it more than is nice, the speakers sound quite shrill, and the rubber coating next to the touchpad shows every greasy finger clearly. Also, the fans are quite audible once the i7 is challenged a bit.
All in all, I'd highly recommend this laptop to people who want a Lenovo thinkpad but can afford to pay a thousand euros less for the same specs with a slightly lower build quality.

I've had these for over a week now. Summarized in one word: Power! Latest hexacore i7 processor, lots of memory and lots of storage. Handy that connections are at the back (so no cables in the way). Gaming is great but you can't play every game on ultra unfortunately. Video editing not yet tested but will not be a problem with this laptop. Screen has nice thin edges, brightness could have been a little better but is certainly not disturbing!

Was looking for a photo and video editing laptop to replace my 9 year old Mac mini. Is mainly used at home, so it didn't have to be ultra thin, but preferably with a fast processor and sufficient (working) memory. The Y530 appealed to me because a lot of attention has clearly been paid to the cooling, and the model looks distinctive.
Speed The Y530 does not disappoint in terms of speed, due to the good cooling, the i7 8750H processor maintains a good speed even under prolonged high loads. The processor is known for its high temperatures; it does not come into its own in thinner laptops with less good cooling. Was pleasantly surprised to see in device manager that a Samsung PM931 is used, this is an SSD with very respectable read and write speeds. The 'normal' HDD is also a fast one: a 7200 rpm Seagate Barracuda Pro. Everything is super fast, booting around 5 seconds, opening programs, rendering etc.
Gaming I didn't buy the Y530 for gaming, but the GTX 1050 does, albeit not on the highest settings. For hardcore gamers, the GTX 1050 ti and GTX 1060 are better options. Contrary to what is stated in the specifications, the GTX 1050 does not have 2Gb but 4Gb memory. The graphics card is also used during the rendering of video (davinci resolve), so that comes in handy.
Connections No USB-C gen2 or USB 3.1 gen2 connections but both are gen1. Gen1 quickly gets tired of my use. Conveniently, most connections are on the back, which keeps your desk free of cables. If you want to quickly connect something to the side, there are also USB ports on both sides. Unfortunately there is no SD card reader, but they are cheaply available separately and often faster than a built-in one.
Keyboard and trackpad The keyboard is very nice, there is a lot of travel on the keys (1.7 mm), it is spacious and the touch is just pleasant. The keyboard illumination has 2 positions and illuminates not only the characters but also the keys themselves, which are translucent all around. Looks quite chic. The trackpad is small but precise, the separate buttons below it are very noisy. So I immediately bought a silent mouse.
Monitor The image is sharp, sufficiently bright for indoor use and the contrast is also reasonable. However, the color range is sadly thin: 57% sRGB. All colors look like they have a 'desaturated' filter over them. Bright red, green, or blue just won't show up. Quiet for the eyes perhaps, but for color processing in photos and videos an external monitor is therefore necessary, the Y530 with 60 Hz IPS is not suitable for that. Fortunately, I still have an Eizo 23 inch monitor that I can connect for critical work.
In short, a very fast and fine laptop with only 1 flaw; the mediocre screen. If correct color reproduction is important and you don't have an external monitor, take the Y530 with the 144 Hz IPS screen. In addition to a higher refresh rate, it also has a much better color range: 93% sRGB.
