Miele WED 388 WCS PowerWash & Steam

My old washing machine doesn't have a steam function, so I always iron my clothes by hand. With SteamCare, that's no longer necessary. The refresh program of this washing machine reduces wrinkles by up to half. I was also clean in 49 minutes thanks to PowerWash. What I don't have is TwinDos, which allows me to dose my detergent by hand.

First impression The first thing I notice is the luxurious feeling that the washing machine gives. This is due to the strong build quality. When I open the drum door, I notice how sturdy it feels and how much space there is. The control panel is clear. I can see exactly which programs and functions there are. For example, there are programs for wool, shirts and jeans. I also see that I operate the washing machine via an app. I automatically receive a notification when my laundry is clean.

PowerWash: clean in 49 minutes I wash my clothes powerfully clean with PowerWash. With this technique, the washing machine sprays the detergent over my clothes from above. I was extra fast with the QuickPowerWash program. This gives me a half-full drum of clean laundry in 49 minutes. Handy, when my daughter spills pasta sauce on her shirt again.

SteamCare: fewer creases I like that this washing machine has SteamCare. With this refresh program I freshen up my clothes and reduce the creases by half. I use this steam function for clothes that come out of the dryer creased, but also for shirts that have been hanging in the closet for a while.

Dosing by hand What this washing machine does not have is TwinDos. This allows me to dose my detergent and fabric softener by hand. That is why I pay more attention to how much detergent I need for a clean wash. That way my clothes stay nice for longer, even without TwinDos.

CapDosing washing capsules The washing machine does have CapDosing. I use one washing capsule per wash, for example for wool or silk. There are also capsules with fabric softener in them. I put it behind the CapDosing flap in the detergent drawer and press the capsule. In addition, the detergent drawer is suitable for normal detergent and fabric softener.

Door does not open immediately When my laundry is done, I am curious about how my clothes smell. I pull the door, but it does not open immediately. Then I realize that I have to turn off the washing machine first. Now the door does open. My sweater smells wonderfully fresh and still feels soft thanks to CapDosing.

Great to finally have a Miele

Machine works almost as expected. So far little to complain about and the washing result is fine. It is inconvenient that you cannot spin an extra round from your lazy chair immediately after a program has finished. That would save you from having to walk to the second floor. As soon as you want to select another program in the app, the door unlocks and you cannot start the new program. Although steam is clearly displayed in the name as a selling point, it is not immediately clear what the function entails and how you select it. The adjustable feet use an extra nut. According to the manual, you should hold the leg with a pair of water pump pliers and turn the nut back up with the supplied wrench. However, this is almost impossible, because the nut is completely turned against the foot from the factory. If you hold the leg with pliers, you cannot reach the nut. Especially considering that the machine weighs a mere 80 kilos and washing machine compartments do not offer the most room to move.
