The detectors in this Ei 146 Power Grid (5 years backup) 5-Pack work on the power grid, and they have a 9V backup battery that lasts up to 5 years. When one of the smoke detectors detects smoke, all connected detectors give off an audio signal. You connect these detectors to each other by wire, or with a separately sold base. Because the smoke detectors work on the power grid, you mount them directly to the default socket in the ceiling. Thanks to the batteries, you'll always have a backup in case of a power outage. With the test button, you easily check if the smoke detector is still working. Note: Can only be connected wirelessly when you own the Ei 168RC base.
