Which charger do I need for my MacBook?

Power adapters come in various wattages. Your MacBook requires a power adapter with the right wattage. You can easily use a compatible charger with a higher wattage, though it won't charge your MacBook any faster. If you use a charger with a lower wattage, it won't provide enough power for your MacBook. A MagSafe power adapter consists of 3 parts: a connector and adapter, a power cord, and an AC power connector.

  • Are the serial number's first 3 characters C4m or FL4? In that case, you're using the cable with a USB-C power adapter of 29W or 30W.
  • Are the serial number's first 3 characters DLC or CTC? In that case, you're using the cable with a USB-C power adapter or 61W or 87W.
