After having owned several Windows laptops from Dell (XPS) and Lenovo, among others, this laptop stands out for its build quality, speed and battery life.
Just like a MacBook Air, this Surface Laptop has no ventilation openings in the casing. However, there is indeed a fan to cool the processor during heavy applications. The air is exhausted through the gap between the keyboard and the screen. However, in practice (internet/office/programming) I don't think the fan ever turns on, because I don't hear it.
Furthermore, the 3:2 screen is beautiful and ideal for internet and office applications. More fits vertically on the screen, so you can see just a little more of a web page or document. The image refreshes dynamically up to 120 Hz, which ensures super-smooth scrolling through web pages. The glossy touchscreen does reflect, but the glass plate (Gorilla Glass) actually improves the contrast and color reproduction.
The speakers are very good and with the Dolby Access application (download from the Microsoft Store) you can fine-tune the sound to taste (more bass/less treble, etc.).
Microsoft Office 365 applications such as Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint run natively on the Snapdragon Zoom and Visual Studio also run natively. Furthermore, the laptop supports Windows Hello as standard, so you can unlock the laptop in a second with your face.
This laptop does not excel in gaming because the graphics processor in the Snapdragon X is not powerful enough. Most games are also not optimized to run natively on the Snapdragon X processor. This does not benefit gaming performance. I tried playing Beyond All Reason, but it resulted in a framerate of only 10fps.
I don't use Copilot+ (yet), so I can't say anything about that.
At the end of the day, I am most impressed with the build quality. The laptop is made from one piece of aluminum, making it very sturdy and solid. This laptop most resembles a sturdy MacBook laptop, but for Windows.
