The Lenovo Legion 5 is a great gaming laptop that I can easily configure to my needs. I adjust the RGB lighting and choose the laptop's performance mode via the LegionSpace app. I also see all the details of my favorite games razor-sharp and realistic on the screen, so I always have my opponent in my sights. The laptop's casing and screen are a bit prone to fingerprints, as they're easily visible.

First Impression The laptop has a 15.1-inch screen. This makes it a good size for someone with small hands. It is a bit heavy, weighing 2 kilograms. The charger is also quite large, making it harder to carry. Fortunately, I mainly game at home. I have noticed that I easily see fingerprints on the casing, which I can easily wipe off with a cloth.

Enjoyable RGB Lighting and Useful Features This Legion 5 laptop has a backlit keyboard, making it easy to game in the dark. The RGB lighting lets me game in style. Using the LegionSpace app, I can choose from seven pre-set RGB patterns. I also create my own patterns with different colors, making it easy to choose the lighting I like and enjoy for each game. I also set the performance optimization in the LegionSpace app, which allows you to control how hard the processor and graphics card work. The app has four different modes, ensuring the Legion laptop always performs well and is fast. I can also tell which mode I'm using by the on/off button, which changes color to match the mode I'm currently using.

Fluid and colorful screen

While gaming, everything looks smooth, sharp, and colorful. Thanks to the 165Hz refresh rate, I see fast-moving monsters and enemies fly by seamlessly. Because the screen doesn't stutter, I have plenty of time to shoot enemies quickly. In-game, I see all the colors clearly thanks to the OLED panel. The screen is glossy, though, so I have to rotate the laptop occasionally to avoid glare. Fortunately, that's a minor inconvenience. In the game, I can still see all the details clearly in dark tunnels and dark nights, because this screen uses DisplayHDR True Black 1000 color technology. This allows me to quickly spot well-hidden monsters.

I bought this computer because it was supposed to have a long battery life (10 hours) and because it met the specifications I require in a laptop: a powerful processor and a dGPU (dedicated graphics card). I specifically chose this laptop over an ASUS Vivobook because it was supposed to have 10 hours of battery life, which is why I paid €200 extra. In practice, the battery life is truly terrible; on the default settings it comes with, you don't even get 3 hours of battery life just watching videos and surfing the web. How they arrived at 10 hours is a complete mystery to me. I'm still testing the battery life with the dGPU disabled, meaning it's running solely on the Intel UHD Graphics iGPU it includes. I've already tweaked quite a few settings, such as reducing the refresh rate from 165Hz to 60Hz, the screen's color depth, background processes, disabling Windows bloatware, etc. But many of these things aren't obvious if you're not already familiar with optimizing a laptop like a typical user.

Furthermore, it's a very powerful laptop; it can easily run demanding games like Teardown at the highest settings. With 24GB of RAM, you can also easily use resource-intensive programs simultaneously, and the processor adds significantly to that. The picture and sound are truly stunning; the OLED display comes with multiple color depth options, allowing you to see colors you've never seen on a screen before. The audio driver and speakers are also top-quality, delivering fantastic sound where you can even feel the bass.

All in all, a very powerful laptop that's great for gamers and people running other demanding programs, but not recommended for work (given the battery life).
